Welcome back from Fall Break. A week has gone by since, but it was spent mostly on AIMS. So far since we came back we learned about a number called "Standard Deviation". This number tells us how much a set of data varies from average in the given set. We analyzed several football teams, finding that Arizona teams are extremely inconsistent. Now this week, using that same standard deviation number we are assembling our own normal distributions (bell curves). Remember, the key values are 68%, 95% and 99%. Tomorrow we are going to move on to figuring out numbers that are in between those standard deviations. We will be applying something called z-scores. It's exciting to see you all excel at this, it's a tough topic but I know you can do it.

Fall Break

Great job by several of you this first quarter. Looking forward, over the next quarter we will be putting together a budget using the types of data we have been calculating so far. Keep in mind that your projects are part of the tests/quizzes/portfolio portion of your grade so as long as you do well on them, we should see some great increases in overall grades as the end of the 1st semester approaches. Over the fall break, it will be helpful for you to begin collecting data for your budget project. The data that we need is from at least 30 adults. Find out how much they made at their 1st job. Keep in mind that they may have worked different hours and been paid different ways (piecework, hourly, commission etc). The number that we will ultimately need is their monthly income. Many of you have already risen to challenges in class. Keep up the good work and enjoy your break. Mac
