Comment with a link for your Prezi.

This is how you submit your prezi. If you do not present I will score it from the link. Make sure you have already shared your spreadsheet with me. Remember, #1-17 are presenting Tuesday, #18-37 are presenting Monday. Without presenting the very highest grade you can get on this project is 80%.

Prezi

Below is a sample of a prezi for your sophisticated budget project.  In a professional setting, communicating your budget is a very difficult task.  The goal here is to make a presentation with graphs that speak for themselves.  Now this is not a business budget, just your plan but nonetheless a great opportunity to practice.  If you use computer #101-117 then you present Tuesday.  If you use computer #118-132 your presentation is on Monday.  Friday I will insert a post on the class blog where you will post a link to your prezi.

Frequency Budget Sheet Example

Click the link below to see the first phase of the project's example. This is for a guy who went to Mesa Community College and completed his AAS in Construction. Based on this initial budget, he is going to have to make some drastic changes in order to be cash flow positive. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lX-v8BerE81N_57hm7K8wihXcBWWVD74aIIxmalVDvo/edit?usp=sharing

Sophisticated Budget Guidelines

We are well under way in the gathering of information for our final project, the Sophisticated Budget.  Remember that according to our textbook, budgets get more sophisticated (complicated) with time.  Last semester our focus was surviving the next 5 years.

The sophisticated budget should address your situation that you plan to be in starting summer 2019.  It doesn't need to necessarily be that specific date but we are looking at your plans for adulthood.  This should include much more since we have spent so much time analyzing car buying, insurance, mortgages and savings.  Below are the criteria by which you will be graded.  Note that if you do not present, the best score that you can get is an 80%.  So be ready to present on your assigned day.  Presentations will be completed using Prezi (free online software).  You will post a link to your prezi on my page so that there is no need to bring in a flash drive or anything of such.

In the coming week I will be posting examples of what is expected as well as procedures for completing your project.  Remember, this activity is designed for you to show what you have learned this year in Math Technology.  It's called Portfolio Assessment so make sure that it is professional and of the very high quality that I know you are all capable of.

Keep PantherStrong for these next few weeks class of 2014!

Chapter 8 Comparing Mortgages and Affordability Ratios

Remember that we spent a considerable time in chapter 4 studying loans.

These are the main points from this chapter:
1.  Small differences in mortgages can cost thousands over time.
2.  There are other expenses to consider when comparing renting to owning.
3.  Know what you can afford before making a decision, according to the book 28% is acceptable front end ratio, 36% back end ratio.  The book also said that 28% of gross income is acceptable rent.
4.  To find the total interest paid on a mortgage, you sum all the payments and subtract the amount borrowed.  For further study, see the textbook (avail at the bookstore) and chapter 4's notes (posted).
